Online Safety

Today's digital world offers fantastic opportunities for learning and connection, but it also comes with risks. As parents, we want to ensure our children are safe and responsible online. This page provides resources and guidance to help you navigate the online world with your children.

What are the Risks?

  • Content: Explain the potential for children to encounter inappropriate, harmful, or illegal content (e.g., cyberbullying, misinformation, graphic images).
  • Contact: Discuss the dangers of online interactions with strangers, including grooming, inappropriate communication, and sharing personal information.
  • Conduct: Explain how online behaviour can impact a child's reputation and potentially lead to cyberbullying or other negative consequences.
  • Commerce: Highlight potential risks related to online purchases, scams, and financial transactions.

How to Protect Your Child:

  • Open Communication: Encourage open dialogue about online activities, including apps, games, and websites.
  • Set Boundaries: Establish clear rules and expectations for online use, including screen time limits and appropriate content.
  • Monitor Activity: Regularly check your child's online activity, including their device usage and the websites they visit.
  • Use Parental Controls: Utilise built-in parental controls on devices and apps to filter content and monitor usage.
  • Teach Safe Practices: Educate children about online safety, including:
    • Sharing personal information (address, phone number, photos)
    • Recognising and reporting inappropriate content or behaviour
    • Thinking before clicking on links or accepting friend requests
  • Report Concerns: Encourage parents to report any concerns about online safety to the school or relevant authorities.
