Year 3 Visit to Stibbington

World War II Evacuation Day

On Tuesday 2nd April, Year 3 children arrived at the Nene Valley Railway Station where they were met by a billeting officer, who walked the children to the Stibbington Centre. At the Centre the children experienced the evacuation process by completing Identity Cards and learning about life in wartime Britain. They also participated in a 1940's lesson in a period classroom, where they practised a gas mask drill, learned spelling and singing, and assembled in an air raid shelter when a siren sounded. To end the evacuation experience, the children played a range of World War II outdoor games such as skipping, playing with hoops and playing marbles. The day was a huge hit with both the children and the accompanying staff. The children demonstrated very good subject knowledge and the visit was a fantastic way to end our World War II topic.
